“Shamrock Carpet Page”

The inspiration for this piece came from the carpet pages from the “Book of Kells”. Carpet pages, from the old manuscripts, were pages that were filled with intricate details of knotwork and symbolism illustrated by the illuminators of the time. I was inspired to design my own carpet page that you see here. So the gold leaf knotwork follows the design of a cross with a circle around the center that displays a rustic orange flower with the symbolism of peace. In the four spaces around this there are two birds each with their necks intertwined that represent love. There are copper hearts above the birds and ornamental copper accents on their tail feathers. To frame it out there are the golden and green shamrocks of the Irish to bring the viewer blessings of good luck!
